Treatment for Laryngitis

Laryngitis is a condition that affects many singers. Yet for a large part this condition is caused by irresponsible voice use, or bad eating habits. Taking proper steps can actually prevent laryngitis from occurring. Basically laryngitis involves the swelling of your vocal chords. There are many possible consequences including bad singing, and an infection in your vocal tracts. Any informed singer knows that alcohol is not a singer's best friend. It has a negative effect on your voice and should therefore be avoided. If you insist on drinking that beer than do it on a day that you don't have a performance. Also eating late (for example after finishing a show) is not exactly good for your voice. Eat light meals and try to eat at least 4 hours before going to bed to give your body some time to deal with acid reflux that is created after food consumption.

Keeping your voice in a healthy condition involves discipline. Don't shout often, if your voice feels tired then give it some rest! After a vocal performance make sure you talk as little as possible and take some time off to rest. Another thing that is sure to irritate your vocal chords are colds. If you have a cold then you should avoid signing and extensive talking. A cold needs time to get ejected by your body, and it goes fastest if you rest.

Obviously Laryngitis is a frustrating condition because it completely blocks any attempts at doing your job (singing). If your laryngitis is not gone after 10 days, and you are certain you have taken enough rest, then go see your doctor . In general tea with honey has a soothing effect on your voice. Do not forget to keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the day. Stay away from products that can irritate your vocal chords even more. To fight the infection you should look at increasing your intake of vitamin C and A, unless you are already taking supplements. If the room you spend most of your day in is filled with dry air, then try getting a humidifier set up. Also make sure the room is clean and virtually free of dust. Dust particles mixed with dry air are a sure way to irritate your voice.
